Fox Hunts Rules

The transmitter will be hidden within an eight-mile radius of the start point (Garner Park located at Rosa and Mineral Point roads). The transmitter will be on for fifteen continuous seconds every minute. The hider will monitor the MARA repeater (147.15 PL 123) and the hunt frequency (146.565) throughout the duration of the hunt. The hider will attempt to contact the hunters on the MARA repeater at the start of the hunt to ensure that the signal can be heard at the start point.

Annual Trophy Fox Hunt 2010

This year's fox was Brad WB9WHI, who was located at Lake Farm Park. Brad built a transmitter box to automatically key the radio as needed. Thomas (KE6CBR) and Micah found Brad in only 27 minutes, possibly a club record! The other two teams gave up after two hours.

Annual Trophy Fox Hunt 2009

The fox was located off highway 14 and Cleveland Rd on Deer Run Road between Middleton & Cross Plains up the hill and a bluff.

The starting location and time was Garner Park, 333 S Rosa Road at Mineral Point Road, Madison, Wisconsin, at 7:00 P.M. 18 August.

The first in was Brad, WB9WHI & Kevin, with Doppler.

Thomas, KE6CBR's report:

Hi all,
We hid here.

Carolyn, NQ9A and I were set up to start at seven o'clock sharp with a five-watt transmitter and a 50mw transmitter.? Unfortunately, despite a successful test the week prior, the five watt transmitter could not be heard at the start point.? We switched to running 50 watts through the Jeep mobile radio instead, with an approximate start time of 7:11 PM.

First on the scene were Brad and Kevin, at 8:06.? This is the only team to have looked for and successfully found T2.
Second were team GOC, Frederick and Betsy, at 8:09.
Third were Anton and Ben, at 8:51.
Fourth were Jim, Rick and Dan at 9:00.

We adjourned to the Culver's in Cross Plains for food and to swap lies. The two non-doppler teams both agreed that they need attenuators of some sort.

Carolyn took photos at the restaurant. We're going to do another hunt, same start point and hunt area, in the future. I will keep you posted.
